The world's largest deposit of gypsum
provides a wonderland of fun and enchantment. Rent a disk from the
campground for a nominal fee and have a race down the dunes.
Watch as the sun goes down over two mountain ranges. In the summer, play
while the stars come out. They appear so close one might
reach up and
pluck them from the sky.

- The Space Center
-

-
The Space Center is located in the heart of Alamogordo, and
consists of the museum and the planetarium complexes. Spend as
much time as you wish wandering through the beautiful 5 story museum,
which depicts man's history of space flight. Tour the exciting
displays outside. Top it off with a great IMAX show at the
planetarium.
- ZOO
-
Alameda Zoo is the oldest zoo in the
southwest and one of the very oldest
in the country. It is a small zoo which is carefully tended and beautiful to
visit.

Toy Train Depot
-
The Toy Train Depot is located just a
couple of blocks from the campground. The depot has on display a
lifelong collection of toy trains, some of which are quite rare.
There are trains outside to ride for those who are young at heart.
Kids Kingdom

Kids Kingdom is a free playground built of redwood by
dedicated community residents. There are castles and turrets and walkways
to explore and play make-believe.
Hiking
Hiking
is available for family, experienced mountain hikers and everyone
interested in seeing the less obvious sightseeing. The trail pictured is
at Oliver Lee State Park, 13 miles south of town. The trail ascends from
about 4500 to the very top of the Sacramento Mountains, approximately
9,000 feet in elevation. There is a waterfall on this route, for those who
persevere.
